RE: OIG FOIA Request No. 22-OIG-031
SUMMARY
Empower Oversight wrote a letter to the Office of the Inspector General at the Department of Justice (DOJ-OIG) seeking an explanation about why the office has failed to comply with a November 9, 2021 FOIA request regarding senior FBI official misconduct.
Three high-level FBI officials—including the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of and FBI field office—improperly spent $2 million of federal government funds and falsified records to conceal the use of funds, per an investigative summary published last year. Empower Oversight requested any documents explaining how the FBI’s internal procedures failed to prevent this $2 million purchase using taxpayer dollars. Empower Oversight also sought records that would identify the office and the SAC involved in the misconduct.
